Photo Restoration
New Software: Nik Viveza
Top spot Should go to Nik Software’s Viveza, a new Photoshop plug-in that performs selective color and tone correction to your images.
The plug-in based around the U Point control technology engineered by Nik and originally employed in Nikon’s Capture NX, which is Nikon’s image editor for its NEF Raw format.
U Point lets you make edits to portions of an image without having to create complex masks or selections, and it’s both extremely powerful and surprisingly simple to use.
And Viveza supports Photoshop’s Smart Filters, which lets you perform non-destructive editing without creating adjustment layers.
The control point technology is the reason a few friends of mine use Capture NX instead of Photoshop for round-tripping images inside an Aperture workflow. I was blown away with how easy it was to correct images with Capture NX, and, after watching the demo, I can’t wait to get my hands on Viveza.

Updated Plugin Software: Image Repainter v 1.5 - 23/05/2008
Photoshop-compatible plug-in for Windows designed by ImageSkill Software. Image Repainter allows the user to make a photo to be 'slightly brighter', or 'slightly more colourful' taking main colours and brightness from the photo you like. It is very useful for recoloring of a series of image shots, especially where slightly different lighting and camera settings produced unnatural colour effects in each photo like gray colour appearance in your seaside photos while it should to be blue. Image Repainter is of rare class of tools which 'just understand you'. You only give it the image you want to fix and a 'template image', which colour content is close to what you want see on the photo to be fixed. Image Repainter will change the colour content of the work image in a smart, fast and attractive way. You can do a global color change or local one. In the latter case you only need to select any particular area of an image where color change should be done. Extra fade brush can help blend and restore colouring.

The following tips will help you get the best results when using Image Repainter.
- Do not use source and template images that have very narrow color histograms.
- If you want to get specific artistic color effects on your photos use painting JPEG's as templates.
- If getting attractive results, then save suitable templates to Image Repainter's Templates Gallery or create your own template galleries.
